Vila Madalena is one of the most bohemian, upbeat, and exciting neighbourhoods that São Paulo has to offer. Eccentric street names (such as; Purpurina, Glitter, and Beco do Batman aka Batman Alley) and a unique and bohemian take on traditional bars make Vila Madalena truly an all-encompassing Paulistano experience.
For those who enjoy the livelier side of life, Vila Madalena has a huge variety of establishments on offer. Fancy a cold beer after a long day at work? Why not head down to Salve Jorge's, a traditional Brazilian bar that boasts beers at every corner (not to mention the discount for those whose name is João).
Despite the exctiing weekend atmosphere Vila Madalena isn't just a party-vila. It was, in fact, originally a refuge for intellectuals, and Vila Madalena therefore also offers an enchanting cultural charm. The Village Bookstore, for example, is a fantastic way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the streets of Vila Madalena, relax with a coffee and read the afternoon away.
There is also an endearing square called Feira Omaguás, every Sunday, a group of artisans convene to exhibit and sell original works to the public. Not only will you find handcrafted goods and materials in the square but it is also not uncommon to come across a musical show, a poetry reading, or even a small theatre production.
Vila Madalena really does have it all to offer and is a great location for any type of person in search of an authentic São Paulo experience.
